Recollections: The the Hoover just once, in prep for a DT-2 exercise at USNTPS.  Didn’t record who I flew with…bummer (I likely knew the person well).  The photo is for VX-1, as I couldn’t find a FWATD (“Force”) photo online and–like so many of the airplanes I’ve flown–I do not have personal photos from my flights.  

The Hoover (so named for the “whooop, whoooop” sound it’s engines make when changing power) is the aircraft carrier cousin of the P-3 that I flew in the fleet.  While I would’ve loved to done some ASW (Anti-submarine Warfare) operations with the airplane, the flight was strictly a chance for me to fly the machine, learn it’s characteristics (so I could accurately grade the report of the two students assigned to this airplane for their DT-2).  It was easy to fly and I, unfortunately, didn’t keep good notes so that’s about all I can say!
